This English text is provided for convenience. If it differs from the Korean privacy policy, the Korean version applies.
People of the Bible (https://who.withthebible.com, including its English pages under /en/) processes the information needed for signing in to comment, for the mail you ask for, and for running the site.
What we store
When you sign in with a Google account, we store the following in a Cloudflare D1 database:
- your name, the address of your profile picture, and a hashed value of your Google account identifier
- when your account was created, when you last signed in, the last day you visited while signed in, and whether you are an editor or restricted from commenting
- your comments, when they were written, edited or deleted, the page they belong to, and which comment they reply to
- notices of replies to your comments, and when you read them or we mailed them
We do not store your original Google account identifier. We ask Google for the openid, profile and email permissions. When you sign in, the email Google has verified is compared with the editor allowlist, and a hash of that address is kept in your sign-in cookie so we can tell whether you are subscribing with the same address. Unless you subscribe to mail, we do not store your email address in the database, and we never show it to other visitors. We do not ask for payment details.
When you post a comment, your name, profile picture, comment and the time you wrote it are visible to other visitors. The response that loads comments also includes a hashed identifier that tells commenters apart. We use no advertising and no tools that follow visitors around. The service runs on Cloudflare, and Worker operational logs are turned on to investigate outages.
When you subscribe, we store:
- your email address, the language and edition (scholarly or general) you want, and the mail you chose (weekly mail, reply alerts, occasional news when you have been away)
- when you subscribed and confirmed, how many confirmation mails we sent, and the account you linked by signing in with the same Google address
- the kind of each mail we sent, when, and whether it was delivered to the mail service
Reply alerts use replies to the linked account’s comments, and occasional news uses the last day you visited while signed in to that account.
We send a confirmation mail to the address you enter, and your subscription starts only when you press the button in it. If you are signed in with a Google-verified address that matches the one you enter, it starts right away. Children under 14 cannot subscribe themselves; please use a parent’s or guardian’s address.
The weekly mail goes out on Mondays at 8 a.m. Korea time. Reply alerts and occasional news are sent only if you chose them. A reply alert carries only the study title and a link, never the name of the person who replied or what they wrote. Except for confirmation mails, nothing is sent between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. Korea time. Every mail you receive as a subscriber has links to change your settings or unsubscribe.
Mail is sent through Resend. Transfer of personal information abroad:
- Recipient: Plus Five Five, Inc. (Resend), contact support@resend.com
- Country: United States
- Items: email address and the content of the mail
- When and how: each time a mail is sent, over an encrypted connection (HTTPS)
- Purpose: sending mail
- Retention: Resend keeps sending records for 30 days. Addresses that bounce or report mail as spam are kept on Resend’s suppression list, and the site deletes that subscription as soon as it is told.
If you do not want this transfer, do not subscribe, or unsubscribe. You will not receive mail, and everything else on the site keeps working.
To keep subscription requests and reading totals from being flooded, Cloudflare counts requests by IP address for a short time. The site does not store these IP addresses.
Reading totals
To choose last week’s most-read studies, we count views and listen starts only as totals per study per day. These numbers carry no cookie, IP address, account or device information. So that one tab does not count the same study twice, the browser keeps a marker in sessionStorage, which disappears when you close the tab.
Transfer abroad for running the site
Cloudflare serves the site and stores its data. Transfer of personal information abroad:
- Recipient: Cloudflare, Inc., contact privacyquestions@cloudflare.com
- Country: United States (database location: western North America)
- Items: all the information this policy says we store
- When and how: each time you use the site, sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and stored
- Purpose: serving the site, storing data, limiting request rates
- Retention: the same as the periods in this policy.
Why we use it, and what your browser stores
We use this information to tell commenters apart, show comments, deal with misuse, and send the mail you asked for. We do not sell it. Google handles sign-in, Cloudflare serves the site and stores the data, and Resend sends mail.
The editor dashboard stores the topics the editor enters, the sources of the public material checked, drafts, writing settings, review, approval and publishing records, and the history of editorial work. Visitors’ account details and comments are never used as writing material. The token that connects the operator’s computer is stored on the server only as a hash, and it cannot approve or publish a study. Editors can see subscriber counts and a sending log in which addresses are partly hidden.
The cookie that keeps you signed in lasts up to 30 days; a temporary cookie that checks a sign-in request lasts up to 10 minutes. Signing out removes the sign-in cookie. Your choice of edition and screen theme is kept in your browser’s localStorage and is not stored with your comment account.
Keeping and deleting
We keep comments and account details while the site is running. When you press Delete next to your own comment, its text and your name and picture are hidden on the public page. The place of a deleted comment remains so that replies still make sense, and this alone does not erase the original text from the database.
When you unsubscribe, we delete your address and settings at once and cancel any mail not yet sent. A request not confirmed within 7 days of the last confirmation mail is deleted. The content of sent mail is deleted after 30 days, and the remaining record of its kind, time and delivery result after 100 days.
If you want stored comments, account details or subscription details deleted, contact us below. We delete them without delay after confirming it is you.
